Defending Heath Ledger

Posted: 01 Feb 2008 02:56 PM CST

As this week draws to a close, I’d like to reflect a little on the topic of Heath Ledger, Hollywood and the way our favorite stars are uniting to protect one of their own.

While the argument can be made that releasing a video of Heath Ledger in a compromising setting could be used to benefit our national war on drugs, we must take into account that there are loved ones who are still very deep in mourning that have been left in the wake of his untimely passing.

Must everything be used to set an example in a war whose greatest enemy is stronger families, better parenting and proper education?

Personally, I applaud those Hollywood stars who’ve taken a stand against the release of this video and have in some small way contributed to a future in which the daughter of Heath Ledger may learn of her dad in a way she can be proud.

Heath Ledger was a great man, an awesome actor - but mostly he was a young man who made the same mistakes that so many people have made.

Is that reason enough to crucify him on national television when he’s not here to defend himself?

What do you think? Should the video be aired? Should it be destroyed?

I’d like to see the same action taken with this video as was taken with the last video of Steve Irwin. It should be given to his family where they can destroy it in a manner they see fitting of the man they knew and loved.
